I am quite smart, I see things for what they are,
Or people for that matter,
So I know the lady smiling at me,
Is myself from the future.
I’m hungry to know so much,
I rile her at the door,
Do you have a family?
“Yes, they are all fine,
It is just that they often don’t seem like mine.”
“The kids have grown, and so have the plants,
We have the same old neighbours, but they have built thicker walls.
The old job is there too, exactly where it was,
But I have moved away, to explore new shores.”
You have put on weight, yes; and attitude too,
“Yes, I have spindly wrinkles, and regrets few.”
She waves me goodbye, but I’m blinking in disbelief,
She is walking away, on her own two feet!
I turn my wheelchair around, I must get back to my exercise,
A peek into my happy future has caught me by surprise,
Waving back I whisper, “I will make you proud.”
